Two Sisters cnc inlay cutting board
Having recently jumped heavily into working on cnc inlays after some test pieces I wanted to make something for real, so I pulled the logo for a new restaurant that was about to open in our town and made them a gift...super nice people...if you are in the Rochester Mn area check them out!
This project was done with a 30 degree v bit, though that big of an angle is limiting on fine detail. Once I figured out how to make a tapered ball nose work with Vectric's new VCarve Inlay toolpath I've used a 10.5 degree bits ever since, see my video below on that...

    I put mine on the wall of my garage. Agree a 15 foot line set would be nice. I unzipped my siding and put PT wood behind areas so siding wouldn’t crush. I placed the brackets low enough that I could lag the brackets into the sill plate.

I set mine up and as I ran through, I also got hit by the incorrecy order of operations (screw on the chuck guard before attaching the chuck; if you didn’t, take the cap screw out of the chuck, set a block of wood on the top of the chuck and knock it off with a mallet). Then I also got hit by the tension on the belts. There’s no way to take enough tension off to slip these belts, and that’s a problem!

    It's been long enough I don't remember exactly what I did, but with fiberboard sheathing on this building where siding nails need to hit studs I probably just lifted a piece of siding to get the locations. If you have osb sheathing I think a good stud finder might still pick up the studs, I have one with a 'deep scan' mode but haven't tried it through osb. Otherwise you may need to cut the building wrap (if you have it) as I did and look for where the osb is nailed to the studs. Of couse if you have something other than vinyl siding it gets tougher. Make sure you check my pinned comment below about vibration through the wall mount, if you still want to wall mount get some thick rubber feet to isolate from the bracket.

    My understanding of vinyl siding is that any bolts anchored through the siding prohibit expansion and contraction, which is why siding needs to be installed with some "wiggle" and is only installed through the strip at the top of each panel. Bolting through it like this will crack the siding as weather causes expansion and the bracket keeps it pinned in place--this goes for both the AC disconnect and the mounting bracket. If you want to mount a heat pump bracket to a vinyl house the "correct" way to do it is to remove the siding, install a mounting block or "J-block" to install the bracket on, then re-install the siding per manufacturers instructions around the new mounting block (this is how it's done for electric meters, outdoor outlets, etc are installed). It's a non-trivial process, and installing to studs like this is responsible for a lot of complaints about heat pumps transmitting vibration through the walls, especially when the units are idling at low speed or cranking at max speed while heating. I purchased one of these but will be returning it and installing a 4x4 wooden snow stand to avoid vibration issues.

    • @LoneOakWoodworks
      @LoneOakWoodworks Рік тому

      All good things to consider, though the siding is only held at two points a couple of feet apart and can still expand outward from there either direction. My installation is north facing (minimal sun) and will have no issues, on a southern exposure could be more of a concern. A mounting block with flashing, j-channel, etc.. around it is a lot more work, and since the brackets in this case don't fall on stud centers you would need very large blocks or one full width that span between studs. That raises more issues of what material to use, will it be a maintenance item that needs to be painted every few years, etc.. Also doesn't help with vibration much as the mounting blocks attached solidly to studs would transmit most of the vibration through anyway. My recommendation would be to just put it on a pad vs wall mount, or on a stand as you are doing if snow buildup is a concern.
